Alleviating the effects of climate change now will improve the lives of future generations.

Ever hope to save someones life? Well, here’s your chance. By acting on all the climate issues our world is facing now, you could be saving your children, their children, and all the future generations of the human race.

The problem with the climate crisis is that it’s not an immediate concern on everyone’s mind. Most people are aware of it somewhere in the back of their brain, but it’s not as pressing as getting your permit or finishing the English paper that’s due tomorrow.

That’s why it is important to focus on the tasks you can accomplish. These are not your typical “going green” strategies. It’s still important to turn off the lights, take shorter showers, and drive your car less, but now it’s time to take it up a notch.

The following is a list of events you can attend and organize to become more aware of climate change and raise awareness in your community. Maybe along the way you can start your own movement, influence a legislator, and ultimately change the world!

1. Go to the People’s Climate March on September 21 in New York City.

2. Invite your friends and family — take a walk in Central Park and visit Times Square. Make it a party!

3. Represent the People’s Climate March on facebook — join the group, share their pictures and events.

4. Watch “Disruption” and other films about climate change and how it applies to social justice.

5. Talk about climate change with your friends.

6. Create a personal action plan for how your own interests intersect with climate change issues — Which piece of this issue would you like to help tackle?
