Roommate Revelation

Senior James Barker, a future Montclair State University student, posted on his college’s page and in a matter of time he was in contact with four potential roommates. He eventually choose a music composition major who shared a lot of the same standards and interests as him.

The use of social media by today’s youth has made the roommate search a lot simpler for future college students.  Most colleges now have unregulated Facebook pages where graduating seniors can search for their perfect roommate match.

The students post a blurb about themselves and the other members of the group can contact them if they are interested in sharing a room. Usually the two students discuss their interests, majors, living habits, and other things to try to get to know one another. If it seems to be a good fit, they will agree to request each other as roommates on their online application.

“My roommate is so chill. I made sure to ask him if he was a party guy, since I’m not, and he told me he would rather just chill with his bros,” Barker said. “We also got to know each other pretty well and found out we both like to listen to soundtracks when doing homework.”

The previous generation of college students were just thrown into a dorm

room with a complete stranger with whom they had to live and put up with for an entire year.

This new way of finding a roommate gives students an opportunity to get to know people before being thrust into a tiny dorm with them in a completely new environment. It also ensures that you find someone that you can live harmoniously with so that your freshman year of college can be a little bit easier.
