Annandale American Stories: Lincy Rosa

It all began when I decided to travel to the United States. I didn’t know how hard it was going to be to adapt to this country. I came here and I had to meet my little sister for the first time in all my life and she’s didn’t want to meet me, maybe because she was jealous about my visit. I met my mom after 10 years; she left me when I was 7 years old and everything was very different. We had a lot to talk about since we had not talked since I was a little girl.

It was so difficult for me to be in this country and to not know anyone except my mom and my little sister. I had to meet more people and have more friends. Actually, everything was impossible because the language was pretty hard and I had to ask my little sister how to pronounce the words or what they meant.

My family are the most important people that I have in my life. I thank god because he gave me the most beautiful family in the whole world. In my country. I lived with all of my cousins, my grandmother and my aunt. Then, when I came here, I had to share all of my feelings with my mom because I didn’t have anyone else to share them with. I’m proud of my mom too, because she is the person who’s always with me in bad or good (times). Now, my life is getting better than when I first came here because now I understand everything in English.

Now, my goal is to learn to speak, write and talk better in English. I really want to be here for the rest of my life because this country has a lot of opportunities that my country doesn’t have. I would like to go back to my country, but just to visit, not to stay. I hope everything I want will become better than I imagined.
