There has been a great deal of controversy concerning the scoring of the homecoming floats. More specifically, many students believed that the sophomore float was unfairly judged when compared to the first place junior float.
After reviewing the rubric upon which the floats were judged, Abby Kahn, biology teacher, noticed a discrepancy between the rubric that was given to the classes and the actual rubric upon which they were judged.
The rubric upon which the floats were judged assessed the amounts of red and white tissue paper while the given rubric did not.
“We removed the criterion concerning color, and recalculated the totals,” said Kahn.
“The Junior Class of 2010 still won, with a total score of 315, and the Sophomore Class of 2011 had a final score of 284,” she said after reassessing the scores.
She apologizes for the discrepancy and hopes the judging will run more smoothly next year.
