This year squeezing in trick-or-treating, Halloween parties, and football games became quite difficult. The last home football game is always senior night and this year it fell on Oct. 31, Halloween, making everyone’s plans a little different this year.
“I’m going trick-or-treating before the game and then to a party afterward,” said sophomore Mackda Dinerbu. It seemed that a lot of students had the same plan, arriving to the game late and then leaving early. The stands, filled up as usual, did not have the vast amount of people that it usually carries.
“I’m glad the game landed on this night because I love my costume and I want people to see it!” said sophomore Julia Uglietta, referring to her cat ears. Throughout the stands one could see many different creative costumes, including a milk carton, a mustard bottle and a sumo wrestler.
“It’s fun to see everyone’s costumes because on most Halloweens you only see the people in your neighborhood,” said Dinberu.
Though AHS won the game, with a score of 28-7, it started out slow with a tense scoreboard. The first and second quarters ended with a tie, 0-0 and then 7-7. Coming back into the second half, senior Cason Kynes threw an astonishing pass, which sophomore Melvin Robinson received and scored the second touchdown. The rest of night followed that pattern.
Overall, Kynes threw all four touchdown passes and ran for 86 yards. Robinson scored two touchdowns, while junior Robert Potts and senior Peter Herring scored the other two.
This game is said to be one of the team’s best games and received them a spot in the playoffs, which start on Friday, Nov. 7. The Atoms will be playing against the Chantilly Chargers at Chantilly. This will be another tough game because AHS played them earlier this season with a 20-31 loss.
