Why is this club important to you? I want to support my views in every possible way and I think its important that coming out of High School we fully understand and practice our political views. What made you want to join the club? I joined the club because I wanted an understanding of what the political party meant and whether it was the right political party [for me]. Also, because I’m very outspoken. Why did you want to run for president? I feel like I had the most knowledge of the group. I was Vice-President of the group last year and I had a lot of ideas for us to carry out. What are your duties as president? To come up with fundraisers, make sure party members have a full understanding of conservative views, and help support the republican party in anyway possible, especially now during election time. What is the best part about being a part of this club? Being able to better understand our views and raising money for conservative causes. What do you like about being president? Helping the members better understand our views. What types of activities does your club do? We fundraise, we’re planning on doing debate dinners together, where we will watch debates and eat dinner Volunteering for the election for McCain or any other republican. Practice debating within the republican party more. How much time or effort do you put into the club? Does it require a lot of afterschool meetings? No, we meet about once a week, for two hours. When we get closer to the election it will be about four hours a week, or during the debate dinners it will be about five hours. It depends where we are during the election. What activities has your club planned? We’ve planned t-shirts, debates within the club, when to start fundraising, and debate dinners. How do you feel about the other officers of the club? They are all hardworking, especially Jen Oakes. They are way more commited this year compared to the two together years I’ve been in the club. What has been the best experience for you in this club? I expect it to be, fundraising for conservative causes. What has been the worst experience? There haven’t been any, except when very few people show up for a meeting. Why should people join your club? They should join the club to get a better understanding of political views and I think Republicans are very misunderstood and misjudged. whether they want to be a Republican, Democrat, or Independent as they come out of high school and begin voting. Especially since Virginia is swaying back and forth right now. ???? What changes do you want to make to the club? More fundraisers for good causes, it doesn’t have to be for republicans. More of an outreach to the school , I feel like we keep to ourselves because we don’t know how they will react. Also, more events as a group, such as debate dinners. How do you plan to increase participation in the club? By having more fun events, more fundraising, and more involvement in the AHS student body. How many members are in your club? We had about 24 people sign up. But the amount of people that come to a good amount of meetings, are about ten. Do you enjoy being a leader? Yeah, it helps me understand any conflicts or questions people have about views. It helps me to be a more organized person and help people in any way possible because I want to be a teacher. This club meets on Wednesday at 2:10 in trailer 9.
