One of the NBA’s top stars Lebron James recently spoke about possibly heading over to play in the European basketball league. If offered $50 million dollars, he said he would head over with no hesitation.
Lebron James was the first pick in the first round of the NBA draft in 2003. He was 18 years old and taken straight out of St.Vincent-St.Mary’s high school in Akron, Ohio.
He was taken by the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers and was an instant payoff becoming the NBA’s rookie of the year and has since then been one of the premiere stars in the league today.
If in fact Lebron James does go to Europe to continue his basketball career, it will greatly affect his fan base and the NBA’s viewers will also decrease with losing the leagues “livi“Just because they had more talent, doesn’t mean they didn’t work as hard,” said Adams, referring to the ‘94 state championship team.ng legend.”
Prominent Lebron fan, senior Ronny Kitmetou said, “Even if Lebron James does go to Europe I will still watch him, he is a living legend as well as my favorite player.”
I asked senior Abdi Mohammed if he thought it would be a good move for James and he said “Yes, he is getting paid way more. Lebron James is one of the premiere players in the league today and if he goes other stars may follow his lead.”
In my opinion the reason most people tune in to watch basketball is to watch overpaid athletes drop 35-40 points a game and not pass the ball to their less skilled counterparts. Basketball isn’t the game it used to be; it used to be about close games and rivalries that meant something. Now whenever I look up scores or if I hear people talking about the game all I hear is, oh Boston beat L.A by 20 points last night, a game that used to be played with tough defense and went down to the wire.
As far as opportunities for International basketball, this is the chance of a lifetime. Lebron James is arguably the best player in the league, and during the Beijing Olympics he and Kobe Bryant had no problem skating their way to a gold medal in the men’s basketball tournament.
People from other countries tuned in and fell in love with Kobe and Lebron; their play during the games was phenomenal, they were always out in the village interacting with the locals as well as the competitors from around the world. As a team the U.S. tried to make it to as many big races and finals as they could to help cheer on their teammates..
This will be an interesting story to keep an eye on. The question is, what means more to Lebron, an NBA championship or $50 million?
