On Friday, the boys and girls swim teams improved their records each to 4-1 against Lee.  The boys won their meet 185-130 while the girls won 213-87.

Because the meet was against a less competitive opponent, the Atoms were able to try several different combinations of swimmers for their relay teams.

“We mixed all of our relays and were trying new people at different events all night,” said sophomore Annika Jessen.

At the meet, the team was lead by victories by junior Racheal Burnett in the 50 and 500 yard freestyle events, Jessen in the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard backstroke, and senior Amy Fleming in the 200 yard freestyle.

“I swam to win and in general, I didn’t care about my times as much,” said Jessen.

Burnett’s times in her events were fast enough to qualify her for the Northern Regional Event while her 500 yard freestyle time was fast enough to qualify her for the state meet.

On the boys side, the AHS team was led by senior Walter Smith, who won the 50 yard freestyle, and sophomore Sean Smith’s winning times in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle.  Additionally, sophomore Sean McKinney continued his unbeaten streak in diving with his 5th win of the season.

The Atoms next meet of the season is this Friday against TC Williams.  The Atoms will look to improve to 10-2 on the season against the 1-9 Titans.
