Special Ed Department Starts T-Shirt Fundraiser

Special Ed Department Starts T-Shirt Fundraiser

The Annandale Special Education department has begun selling shirts to raise funds for the CAT-B department.

“The money is going towards activities for the CAT-B department, hoply it will also go towards the field trip” said Special Ed teacher Rebecca Stroud.

April has been recognized by the US as the National Month of Awareness for Autism,  a developmental disorder that affects the development of the brain which alters a person’s social and communication skills.

“April is Autism Awareness Month so we’re hoping it will raise awareness for that as well” said Stroud.

Many of the students in the special education department suffer from mild to severe cases of autism.  Students can help raise awareness by placing the NAAM logo on their social media accounts, contact representatives and senators to vote for autism,  or by simply buying the shirt and donning it proudly.

The shirts are black, there is a diamond shape puzzle on the front, which symbolizes the ongoing search for a way treat autism.  On the back “Autism Awareness at Annandale High 2014” is printed in gold font.

Shirts are $12-14 and forms can be obtained at room 90, near the cafeteria, and they need to be turned in by May 9th.
