It is finally here. The day little girls dream about since Kindergarten. The day seniors fantasize about. The day when girls hurry to the nail salon, get their hair done, and stress about their dresses. It is finally here. Prom. This year’s prom is at the elegant Hilton Marks Center in Alexandria. Everyone has been eagerly anticipating this event’s arrival since the first day of the year. “I am really excited for prom this year because I think the venue is nice,” senior Jenny Nguyen said. Prom is a rather important event among seniors because it is the final dance of their AHS careers, a stamp so to speak, on the envelope of senior year. Many students left school early in order to prepare for prom night. Girls dashed home to fix their hair and apply makeup, and boys went home to ensure they were ready to meet their dates. “I was really disappointed I couldn’t leave early from school today because my parents wanted me to go to all my classes,” sophomore Christina Okowski said, “but I am looking forward to prom night, so it will all be worth it in the end.” The dance began at 9:00 pm and ended 12:00 am. However, many students went out afterwards with their friends. “After Prom, we went to our friends house and watched Netflix all night and hung out,” senior Lailumah Faisal said. “I didn’t end up getting to sleep until 5:30 am, which was cool because I got to watch the sun come up.” The dance itself was also a highlight of the night for many of the seniors. “My favorite part was the chocolate fountain,” Faisal said. “I really enjoyed seeing all of our hard work pay off and everything come together so that the entire class could have a good time,” class officer Melissa Stamp said. “My favorite thing that was there was the photo booth because we got to see the pictures right away.” This year, the Prom King and Queen were Louis Folli and Sara Prince. The DJ announced the winners in the middle of the dance and they were then crowned by Class of 2014 sponsor Carrie Schaefer. “Everyone was really supportive of the winners, even the nominees that didn’t win,” Faisal said. Overall, Prom will be a night to remember for all of the seniors.
