Black History Bowl

With a packed auditorium full of ecstatic cheers, AHS held its annual Black History Bowl to another year of wild success. In celebration of Black History Month, the bowl pits all four classes in a competition of trivia themed around topics regarding history of African Americans. Trivia consists of five categories: Painters, Athletes, The Supreme Court, Music and  Space Science. The event was started in 2000 by former ESOL teacher Kerry Richardson and is currently coordinated by history teacher Kathlyn Berry. In the end, the Senior class of 2016 managed to claim victory, marking a four-year win streak for the class. Students and faculty alike enjoyed the bowl. “I thought it was awesome. I thought it was a pretty good experience, to raise awareness,” sophomore Ricardo Pereira said. The bowl serves as a celebration of the diversity and sense of community at AHS. “It’s just fun when everyone gets together,” senior Meriem Awlaki said.
