Ever since the glory and success of the United States team in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, soccer, or football, has been rapidly growing in the States. More and more people are learning the soccer by watching different leagues such as the Barclays Premier League, picking favorite teams and players, and keeping up to date with stats online. So, where can a newfound soccer fan or lifelong football fanatic go to socialize with other fans? Ask Faisal Hassen, Ahmad Ayub and Omar Haddou. The three have organized a club focused on bringing soccer fans together in certain activities such as debates, FIFA video game tournaments, or friendly outdoor soccer matches.

“Our club is mainly for people who admire watching and/or playing soccer. Students that don’t watch or play soccer but still want to join the club, we’ll be happy to take you. Basically, this club is open to everyone! This club is the first ever Soccer Club at Annandale and we hope to keep the tradition going, even after we graduate. We meet every other Wednesday in Room 237 from 2:20 till about a little earlier than 4:00.” said juniors Ahmad Ayub and Faisal Hassen.

The three have organized a club focused on bringing soccer fans together in certain activities such as debates, FIFA video game tournaments, or friendly outdoor soccer matches.

“We created the club to let people express their love for “the beautiful game” and to have an opportunity to talk about soccer and participate and play in soccer activities while making new friends and socializing.” Ayub said.

The founders of the club aspire to create a friendly environment where fans can discuss the latest events in the world of soccer.

“We hope to have a club with many members that participate in our activities that we offer, and for every member to enjoy themselves and actually enjoy coming to the meetings.”

There are currently two spots to be filled for club executives, anybody able to attend regularly and organize activities for the club. The club’s interest meeting was held on Dec. 3rd, and its first official meeting is today, the 18th. In order to participate in tournaments and other activities, you must have a sign- up form filled out. The club meets in room 237 every other Wednesday from 2:00 to a little before 4:00.

“Even if you know nothing about soccer, you’ll learn a lot by the time you step foot out of Room 237.” Hassen said.
