A couple of summers ago I went to Ecuador and then the Galapagos Islands. I went with a small group from school with EF Tours. When we landed in the Galapagos we actually had to walk off the plane directly onto the runway which was covered with brightly colored lizards.

On the first day we walked to the Charles Darwin Research Center which was right by our hotel and it turned out to be very interesting. They raise all the species of tortoises there that still exist and I got to catch a glimpse of Lonely George.

The next day we got to see the breeding grounds of the marine iguanas which where everywhere, warming themselves in the sun. Then we got to go to a lagoon to snorkel which was a rough hike, but well worth it because the fish were gorgeous and the water was peaceful.

We actually got to see our boat driver cliff dive which was entertaining and suspenseful. Then we went snorkeling in the ocean which was rough, but once again well worth it because of hidden beauty underwater and we got to see the sea lions preforming underwater acrobatics around us. The next days were filled with more snorkeling, spelunking in a lava tube, and boating around to different Islands.

I absolutely loved it and was amazed at the beauty and I hope for it to be more than a once in a lifetime experience for me.
