Bobby Wardell Sandimanie III Other known as Destroy Lonely is a 24 year old American rapper from Atlanta Georgia. Destroy lonely started making music back in 2015 but it was not until 2021 when his music attracted more attention and got him signed to the music label “Opium Records”. Opium is a record label founded in 2019 By another rapper known as “Playboi Carti” real name known as Jordan Terrell Carter. Along side them there are other artist signed to the label such as Ken Carson and the duo Homixide Gang. Destroy Lonely was signed to Opium through his connections in the industry and his Atlanta roots but most importantly his song “Oh Yeah” from his 2020 mixtape titled “</3” Other known as “Broken hearts”. That song, sound and era is what truly caught the record labels attention. Broken hearts is one of Destroy Lonely’s early mixtapes from 2020 that helped shape his image and identity in the underground rap scene. With the tapes popularity it soon led him to expand the album into a deluxe addition named “Broken hearts 2” which dropped on the 31st of October in 2020. Over the years he has dropped numerous albums and projects such as his 2022 Album “No stylist” and lasts years album “Love Last Forever”. Over the years he has been experimenting with his sound and aesthetic within his music. I interviewed a student at Annandale and asked, “What was their favorite era from Lone was?” Junior Nelli Mejia replied “I’m a really big fan of his No stylist era because I feel like it was his best album. A lot of good songs came from that album. “
With the release of Lone’s last album “Love Last Forever” many fans had mixed opinions about it. Most of the songs were produced by a newer producer named “Lil 88”. Many fans online had opinions such as that the songs sounded repetitive, some songs didn’t stand out from the rest or this even claiming this was his worst album. This criticism was probably a motivation to push Lone into experimenting more with his sound. This is most likely why he chose to continue the Broken Hearts mixtape.
I interviewed 4 Annandale students and asked them what was their favorite project from all of Opium?
