Another tragedy yet occurs with the on-going climate crisis in Pakistan .On August 28,2025 massive floods have washed away homes, roads and farmlands in provinces Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. People lost their homes, their houses, even lives were lost. Families were displaced, some who can’t even be located. More than 650 people died. Many were forced to now live under tents and some who didn’t even have that resource. There was no access to clear water, food and even increased risk of diseases in areas who are already struggling. Families were scared for those who lived in the area of the flood and were trying to contact as fast as they could.
“When I heard what happened on the news I called my family. It didn’t affect them as much as it did to their Neighbors”. Said Freshmen Nameera Ahmed. “ They were unsure what to do since some people who lived close by lost their homes while our house only got water in the garage, ” she added. Pakistan has flooded before but scientists claim that due to global temperatures floods are happening more frequently. They warn people that without urgent attention or change the country will continue to suffer.
Some people overcame the floods yet some still struggle in areas like Balochistan who have consistent floods. While in Balochistan most people have to drink contaminated water which ends up to diseases and no doctors or help to cure them. As communities try to reinstate themselves, they live with the constant fear of floods. Not knowing how to fund themselves.
Mothers, students and farmers are all the ones with the consequences while women are putting the brick wall with mud even after the floods wash it away. Students unable to pursue their education due to diseases and no resources. Farmers not having livestock all drowned. Unable to have any resources people are lost and are losing hope as floods are ongoing. As global temperatures rise, people lose their homes and their lives and have a difficult time putting themselves together.
Floods can be managed in a improved way, investing in flood defences such as levees and drainage systems mostly in Sindh and Punjab it can decrease the damage. They can also make sure your alert if a flood is coming or community education to know how to evacuate and take safety precautions. Pakistan needs more resources from International and national. Including lots of funding for climate change projects. Precautions and planning for long-term issues is essential to reduce the impact of coming floods.
“I hope that Pakistan can see the deadly affect floods are having on people and make a change with this rising weather and can help make a change for our families and communities” Said Sophmore Allison Alvarado Valdez “ . “It’s hard for people to put there lives back together after their house have washed away or other affects of floods sometimes even deadly diseases because of the water,” She added.
The increasing frequency and highly impact of floods because of climate change, deforestation and urban planning, there Is a urgent need for solutions. Building infrastructures is essential. Education and awareness to act effectively during floods. Global organisations have a powerful role in supporting insane climate countries like Pakistan. With these resources Pakistan hopes to change the devastating effects floods bring and save lives, futures and livelihoods.
