Love and Keep or Leave and Hate?

Students share fashion trends they will continue in 2020 or leave behind in 2019

Dilan Yousif, 11, Pom Pom Earrings

What made you want to try this fashion trend?
“I saw these earrings on my sister and I thought they were really cute and fun. I also liked how fluffy they were and I thought they would also make me look cute which they did.”

What made you want to continue it in 2020?
“I will continue to use these earrings in 2020 because they have become one of my favorites. I think they suit me really well and I love how bold they are. I love wearing jewelry that draws attention and these are perfect for that. These earrings are also very comfortable to wear and don’t feel heavy at all.”

Idil Ahmed, 12, Bomber Jackets

What made you want to try this fashion trend?
“Bomber jackets always stood out to me because of their bulky nature and they look really unique. My favorite type of bomber jacket is the shiny velvet ones. I think that everyone can pull off bomber jackets and that just makes me love them even more.”

What made you want to continue it in 2020?
“I’ve been wearing bomber jackets since my junior year and I have many different types that I will continue to wear throughout the new year. What made me want to continue to wear them is that they can make any outfit pop and stand out a bit more because they aren’t like any other jackets.”

Kiana Mitchener, 11, Flared Jeans

What made you want to try this fashion trend?
“My friends encouraged me to try flared jeans because they thought I should try wearing something new. I probably won’t ever take fashion advice from my friends again since trying this was a bad idea.”

What made you hate it so much that you didn’t want to continue it in 2020?
“I think I always knew that these pants weren’t going to satisfy me because I don’t wear jeans a lot. The only reason I wore them for as long as I did was that my friends kept hyping me up and making me think I looked like some goddess when I really just looked like I bum off the streets.”

Mohamed Ahmed, 12, Cuffed Pants

What made you want to try this fashion trend?
“Seeing everyone do it made me want to try cuffing my pants. I just wanted to try it out to see if it would suit me, but boy was I wrong. I learned that just because everyone else starts to try out a trend doesn’t mean I have to.”

What made you hate it so much that you didn’t want to continue it in 2020?
“I feel like people who want to cuff their pants want to try to make them look like joggers, and I hate that. They’d be wearing sweatpants or other pants that were open at the bottom, and they’d cuff them to make it look like they were weren’t. I think that trend should end now and I don’t want to see people doing it in 2020.”
