Filament Coffee House draws a crowd

Yesterday, the Filament Literary Arts Magazine hosted their annual Coffee House fundraiser. The Coffee House was a great event where students can illustrate their artistic abilities in front of their fellow peers. There was live music, poetry, and plenty of free coffee.

The event was a huge success, where over one hundred people showed up; compared to last year where about fifty students showed up. All the money made from the ticket sales went to fund the Filament Literary Arts Magazine.

“This event is something we worked towards since the beginning of the year and I am so proud of the staff members for pulling together such a successful event,” said English and creative writing teacher Kathleen Dion, who was also one of the people in charge of the event.

There were a remarkable number of acts performed by various students, each showcasing their individual styles. It took great guts for them to come up on stage and share their unique talents with fellow students.

Before performing, senior Sammy Qabazard said, “I didn’t really know how I play because I’ve been sick lately and was coughing a bit earlier, but afterwards I think I surpassed that.”

He indeed did surpass his slight setback seeing that he was the crowd favorite after he sang and played the guitar. He sang three songs starting with “Number 41” by Dave Mathews Band then continuing to “Wonderwall” by Oasis and finishing off with “No woman, No cry” by Bob Marley, where he got a standing ovation.

Junior Andrea Villaroel said, “When… Sammy [Qabazard] sang and played the guitar, he was great!”

The show ended with a bang as Dion recited her riveting poem, “Scarred.”

“The Coffee House was a [great] fundraiser for the Filament Magazine and more importantly a rare opportunity for students to showcase their artistic talents,” said Dion.

Students enjoyed the poetry, music and amazing food all made possible by the students at AHS.

I attended the Coffee House, and it was wonderful and this article portrays it well. Also the performances were unbelievable, especially Sammys since he played Wonderwall.
