The man behind the jokes

Known for his gut-busting role as Dr. Huxtable in “The Cosby Show”; Bill Cosby, one of the funniest men alive received the 2009 Mark Twain Prize at the Kennedy Center Celebration of American Humor on October 26, 2009. Although taped on October 26th, the celebration show premiered on television on November 4, 2009. The event took place at the Kennedy Center located in Washington D.C. It was definitely a crow-pleasing event. Each minute of the show was filled with hysterical laughter.

The Celebration of American Humor show was first established in 1998. The show features other entertainers who speak about the recipient of the prize; which includes an oral autobiography of his accomplishments and success in life. The Mark Twain Prize is given to people who have had an effect on the American society, similar to how Mark Twain has. Past winners of this prize include Richard Pryor, Jonathan Winters, Carl Reiner, Whoopi Goldberg, Bob Newhart, Lily Tomlin, Lorne Michaels, Steve Martin, Neil Simon, Billy Crystal, and George Carlin.

Special guests were seen at the event, such as Michelle Obama and other political figures. Guests who attended the event were cordially invited to take part in a pre-show dinner to acknowledge Mr. Cosby’s affluence. The tickets for the event ranged from $1,000 (general admission) to $100,000 (VIP admission) per a ticket.

Mr. Cosby’s acceptance speech conveyed his comical personality. His voice lifted the spirit in the room; each person in the audience had a smile on their faces at one point in time. The people who attended really got their money worth. Bill Cosby won’t be alive forever, and it was about time he received his prize. He truly deserved it.
