New faces are seen walking into jock lobby, the sound of jock lockers doors closing, the upbeat sound of students discussing sports. What is going on you may ask? Winter sports have finally arrived. It’s time to bring out the fun indoor sports back. AHS is preparing their athletes for an incredible season this year in all sports. Basketball, Gymnastics, Indoor Track, and Swim and Dive are holding practices and tryouts this week and continuing onto the next. Practices and tryouts recently began Monday after-school.

Students are very excited for the start of winter sports. For some, this is their first sport at Annandale, and for others their second.

“I’m excited for track. There are so many people doing it this year. It’s so much fun. The meets are awesome, you get to just chill until your event and hang out with your friends/ it’s such a good sport to join. I’m just glad it finally has started up,” said junior Alex Tran.

“I’m excited for the track meets, and just getting ready and in shape for soccer season.. It’s a great sport to do if you’re just trying to get in shape for spring,” said sophomore Glenda Sanchez.

“I’m so excited for swim season this year because I now know what to expect from Jarvis, being with my teammates, and I think I’m going to swim really fast this year,” said junior Ben Wolfenstein.

Although there are many students not participating in winter sports this year, there is an even larger amount of students planning to attend any sporting events. Basketball, one of the most watched sports at Annandale should be a major ticket seller once again. Students should remember to visit the Annandale Sports website for schedules for winter sports.
