The upcoming fall play, directed by the Annandale Theatre Co. Artistic Director Noelle Vinas, will be holding auditions next week on Tuesday and Wednesday after school for those who wish to participate. To audition, students will have to prepare a monologue from their favorite play.

“Our Town” is written by Thornton Wilder. It is a three act play that is set in small town in the early 1900’s. This play is centered around the concept of how “People should not take life for granted”. The artistic director feels that the play will help increase the publicity of the book to younger audiences.

“Usually the script doesn’t read out loud like a book,” Noelle Vinas said, “but when staged, it almost always turns out really well-produced”.

The students who are in the Theatre Arts Department have to be committed to do the work that is put into each play. Those who make it into the casting sometimes have to double up as tech team.

Junior Melissa Harberle has been involved in AHS theatre for 2 years and will be auditioning for “Our Town”. She knows that it will be hard work, but is still excited for the new production.

“I’m really excited about the play because of the entirely new approach the new drama teacher, Ms. Noelle Vina, is using for it. We’ll also be double-casting some roles, so that’s even more work on our plates. Despite the work, I think it’s gonna turn out well.”

The Annandale Theatre Co. has a meeting every Wednesday in the Black Box, room 324.  They do many plays throughout the year and they encourage other students to join.
