Theatre prepares to perform a classic

Annandale Theatre Company is presenting Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella Enchanted edition, from the teleplay by Robert L. Freedman. The theatre program has worked hard to prepare for their upcoming show.

Our rehearsals for the most part are daily from 3:15-6PM,” said theater student Jessica Smith.

The theatre department has implemented a lot of different things in this show.

”Our set design for this production is definitely different than anything we’ve done before,” Smith said. “We have 12 foot flats that are hinged together it make it look like a storybook. It’s super cool”.

Music will be composed by Richard Rodgers. The book and lyrics are by Oscar Hammerstein II also.

A lot of effort has been put into advertising this play.

To advertise for Cinderella, I did the usual design for the posters with my Co-Designer Savannah Gravitt. We also have had a Cinderella themed bake sale, student previews which will be happening April 18/19 (ask your English teachers!), and having our spirit week the week of the show,” said Smith.

Tickets have been placed on sale early also for $10, however; tickets still will be sold at the door for $12 at the door of the auditorium. The play will take place on April 20, 21, and 22 at 7 p.m., also a show will be held on April 22 at 2 p.m.

“I’m just hoping the audience has a good time. We’ve spent so much time and money on this production and I hope that everyone will enjoy it,” Smith said.

Many students here at AHS are really looking forward to the play.
“I’m super excited for the show because Annandale’s theatre always puts on a great show,” senior Salima Khan said. “Cinderella was my favorite Disney story as a child.”
