Was SneakerCon DC worth the hype?

On Sept. 7 and 8, students went to SneakerCon in the Washington, D.C. area to buy, trade, and sell Sneakers.

At the event, sneakerheads stretch a long line outside the entrance of the Washington E. Walter Convention Center based in DC, and wait urgently just to get to their booths to set up.

As they enter, they look and walk around the 473,000 sq feet hall to see what they might need or want in their collection.

“It was a good experience but the only two problems with it were charging high prices on the sneakers as well as fakes,” freshman Mustafa Hamdan said.

Additionally, fights broke out over people attempting to sell fake shoes for higher prices than the originals.

“I don’t like fakes because I work hard for the money,” senior Dourian Morales said. “I work and work to get the real Gucci. That’s why personally don’t like fakes mostly because some resellers don’t care about their customers since most they want to make money off people that aren’t educated enough to know between what a real pair of sneakers and fakes.”

Another highlight was that YouTuber and fellow sneakerhead, Jaysse Lopez, spent over 400,000 on nearly 1,400 pairs of shoes, including the Yeezy Boost 350, 500, and 700 made by famous rapper Kanye West.

He also bought the Cactus Jack 1’s and 4’s collab made by rapper Travis Scott, and the Off White x Nike collab made by Virgil Abloh.

To conclude, was SneakerCon DC worth the hype? Yes, but there were some slight problems that made the event go downhill.
