Students disappointed by shutdown of the NBA

Last night, the NBA had suspended the 2019-2020 season after a player of the Utah Jazz was tested positive for the coronavirus. AHS students have mixed feelings about the NBA’s suspension.

Some students applaud the NBA’s actions, while other students may not support the idea of suspending the season because of the coronavirus.

“I think it’s a good thing that the NBA is taking precautions because everyone is starting to get it. It’s getting worse and worse, and Loudoun County Public Schools had closed their schools because of it, so I do think it’s a good thing.” Freshman Damian Johnson commented.

“They shouldn’t be taking it [the coronavirus issue] that seriously. NBA games should still be going on, it’s just so dumb.” Junior Anthony Assadzadeh remarked.

“I think it’s stupid because the NBA isn’t an outdoor sport. Sports would be suspended for cases like this because they’d be outdoor sports. Not many people have the coronavirus here anyways, so I don’t get why the season’s suspended.” Freshman Victor Hernandez said.

The coronavirus originated in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and has spread to the point of over 110,000 cases since then. This has caused panic from the stock market, to public schools and even to major sports entertainers such as the NBA and the NCAA. (Last week, the NCAA had restricted people from viewing their tournament for basketball).

The coronavirus has also affected FCPS, giving students a day off next Monday so teachers can prepare in case of any possible long term closure.

Many organizations have been taking precautions for the coronavirus, resulting in suspensions and cancellations of events all over the world. It’d be wise for people and students at AHS to begin taking precautions of their own as well.
