The A-Blast meets Mary Beth Tinker

The A-Blast visited the Washington Post on Feb. 21 to meet Mary Beth Tinker, from the famous supreme court case Tinker v. Des Moines. The students were able to participate in a Q and A with Tinker and listened to her speak about her experiences.

Senior Rudy Serat changes the oil and oil filter for a car. “This class teaches you a lot. We get to work on cooling systems and transmitions, and sometimes get to bring in our own cars to work on. I really like learning about the ins and outs of cars because it’s useful information for aspects outside of school,” Serat said.

The festival allows nearly two dozen restaurants and food trucks to come together to display a diverse offering of cuisine that the Annandale area has to offer. Among them was this plate of tacos from El Fuego Mexican Grill.
Getting a Taste of Annandale
The steps from the Belvedere at National Harbor (11 miles, 24 min away) is a popular spot for unique Prom pictures. “Some people were a little disappointed about the location being so close but I don’t think anybody minded once we got there and saw how nicely it had been decorated,” alum class of 2018 Megan Lee said. “It helped that our parents were like our personal photo crew, telling us to move over and fix our dresses and all that.”

This is Christine Tamir's fourth year on the staff of The A-Blast. She is one of the two Editorials editorials for this school year. Besides the newspaper, Christine is an IB Diploma candidate and very involved in AHS extracurricular activities. She is president of Key Club, Executive team member of It's Academic, secretary of Mu Alpha Theta (Math honor society) and a member of many other clubs and honor societies. Outside of school, she works for a non-profit called GIVE (Growth through Inspiration, Volunteering and Education) as an Assistant Manager of a local tutoring center.
