Senior Justice Garrish is just about to start his match against the Hayfield Hawks.

On Saturday, January 12 the wrestling team had an all day tournament at Annandale High School. They faced teams like Patriot High School, Centerville, Lake Braddock, Yorktown, Woodbridge, Hayfield, North Stafford, Battlefield and Louden Valley.

The tournament consisted of different rounds and periods to name a champion. Different matches were held in the upstairs gym and main gym. The tournament lasted almost 8 hours and many of the wrestlers were extremely tired towards the end. Unfortunately, Annandale fell to many different schools and did not end up victorious in the tournament.

“The tournament consisted of a lot of really good schools and we [the team] tried our best against them, but unfortunately we lost” junior Connor Beveridge said.

From 106lb to heavyweights, The Annandale atoms gave it their all against the difficult teams they faced. Boys like Justice Garrish, Alex Joya and Anouar Ali won various matches for the team, trying to secure the teams victory.

On the Sunday following the tournament, the 13, Annandale Wrestlers had the opportunity to ref and run a tournament for the younger wrestlers. The tournament was called Mat Rats and was held at Annandale High School.

“We will work harder this week at practice in order to get ready to face Lake Braddock. With all of the teams effort I’m sure we will do great against the Bruins,” Beveridge said.

The Annandale grapplers will face Lake Braddock on January 16, at Lake Braddock
