Winter sports banquet

This February 28, at Annandale High School cafeteria, the annual winter sports banquet is set to happen. All winter sports student-athletes are invited to come have a good time with their teammates, and commemorate all the hard work they put in throughout the season.

The winter sports banquet allows each coach to give their athletes each a specific award based on how they performed. Also, a lot of coaches like to give feedback back to their players on how the season went and what they can improve for the next one. In the beginning of the season, many of the student-athletes compete for awards such as the Atomic Achievement Award.

A lot of athletes perform great on the field and also perform amazingly in class. Many student-athletes also strive for a 3.5gpa. If a student athlete gets a 3.5gpa or higher than coaches will honor them. Most coaches want their athletes to maintain solid grades. If not, they can lower playing time or even bench the player. Also, the winter banquet gives you an opportunity to get a varsity letter. A varsity letter shows that you had played a varsity sport.

Sophomore Devin Gill is attending his second winter banquet. Devin Gill is attending the winter banquet after a great basketball season.  “I don’t like the winter banquet. It’s boring”, Gill said. “ So far, I had no great memories of the winter banquet. Hopefully, it’s fun this time”, Gill said. Devin also plays quarterback for the Annandale football team.

Basketball, Indoor Track, Swim & Dive, Gymnastics, and Wrestling are all sports that will be attending the Winter Banquet.
