One key factor for the Atoms Dive this season will be the improvements to technique and ability of new divers.
The Atoms dive season will begin this Friday, December 3. The team will travel to the Lee District Pool to face the Lewis Lancers.
AHS was successful in 2020, placing well at districts, and despite falling short of expectations at regionals, still gained valuable experience for the young divers.
In 2020, sophomore Nathan Tran finished in 6th place for the men, and freshman Morgan Milman finishing in 13th for the women in the Occoquan region.
The Atoms lost one senior from the 2020 team and were able to add two new talented divers to the team, increasing the team size to five swimmers in 2021.
The new divers will look to make an impact early and often for the Atoms this season, as they will play a significant role in the level of success for the team this season.
“The new members of the team give us more numbers, which leads to more points and a better finish at meets,” junior Ben Nguyen said.
New team captain Nathan Tran has worked through the offseason and preseason intensely to prepare for the upcoming season.
“I feel really good about my inward dive and my front dive, however, I definitely feel that I can improve upon my dives that require twisting,” Tran said. “Little things like keeping my feet together and staying tight when I enter the water are things that I’m focusing on.”
“I am extremely confident in my team’s ability to make drastic improvements from last season, we are ready and we are excited to go prove ourselves,” Nguyen said. “One of my goals is to be better than Nathan, he is my best friend and we have a fun little rivalry that pushes both of us to be our best.”
The offseason preparation has the team confident and ready to roll on this Friday night at Lee District Pool.
