Senior Naomi Thayer is in her third year on the A-Blast staff, she is the Photo editor of the photo page, and the Co-TikTok manager. In her free time Naomi enjoys thrifting, listening to music, eating at a local restaurant called Bitez and hanging out with friends. Naomi hopes to Major in communications and minor in visual media in college.

”There are a bunch of drills we do for each stroke; for example, a common breaststroke drill would be doing 2 kicks per pull instead of the usual 1. My personal favorite is a butterfly drill called 3/3/3 where we do 3 pulls with our right arm, 3 with our left, and then 3 together because it makes me feel like I can actually swim butterfly for more than a 100,” junior Bridget Murray said.

“Tightening up my starts and turns is definitely a focus of mine and will be something I work on as much as possible in practice. Doing “individual” sports requires a lot of discipline because you have to think about improving your own skill every day, but I think in the end that benefits us all even in other sports and aspects of our lives,” junior Danielle Hoye said.

“I am looking forward to representing Annandale, getting better every day, and meeting new people,” freshman Andrew McGee said.

“The average practice starts out with warming up to get loose. Then we’ll do a kick set to make sure our legs stay strong throughout our races. After that we get into our main set which will help us directly practice our events. Practice helps our team get faster when we push ourselves hard. It’s always a great time to bond as well,” junior Colin McGee said.

“The boys hold each other accountable, meaning the guys expect each other to know what they’re supposed to do,” Coach Stevens said. “They know that each of their individual jobs are important to the team. We have really good team cohesion, when someone doesn’t do their job, their teammates hold them accountable to the standard so everyone can work well together.”
