Here at AHS, any form of physical punishment cannot be found.

Corporal punishment is banned here in Virginia, but in many places it still takes place. According to the Center of Effective Discipline:


1. 31 states in the U.S. prohibit corporal punishment.

2. 19 states in the U.S. allow coporal punishment.

3. New Jersey was the first state in the U.S. to ban corporal punishment in 1867.

4. New Mexico was the most recent state to prohibit coporal punishment in 2011.

5. Texas and Mississippi account for 40 percent of all cases of physical punishment in the U.S.

Berta is currently a senior. She has been on The A-Blast since her freshmen year and was first an Academics Editor during sophomore year and then became the Health Editor during her junior year.
