Livi Listens: too serious

Livi+Listens%3A+too+serious+

Dear Livi,

I’ve been dating this new guy recently and I think he wants more from this relationship than I do. I’m happy with just casually dating and having nothing serious, but he wants our relationship to develop into something serious. I like dating him and I like him as a friend, so I don’t want to crush him by saying we don’t want the same things. How do I nicely tell him without losing his friendship altogether?

Sincerely,

Too Serious

Dear Too Serious,

In order to maintain your friendship, you just need to be up front and honest with this guy. Don’t pretend to want something just because he wants it, because in the end you won’t be happy. If you know you don’t want something serious, you should kindly explain to him what you want in a relationship. If you’ve defined your relationship and you both agree you want different things, then you should be prepared to end things but you should do it in a manner where you still remain friends. You should also be supportive and understanding, as he is your friend and you want to make sure he’s happy.

Love,

Livi
