Humans of Annandale: Kennedy Beal

I consider myself a big dreamer. I want to travel all over the world and experience new things. I think it is awesome that there are so many places and cultures to explore. I just want a chance to know all of them inside and out while having the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself.

One thing that you might not have known about me is that I love volleyball, and it’s an enormous part of my life. I started playing the sport back at my old elementary school in Kentucky. It wasn’t until I moved to Virginia when I realized that volleyball was the sport for me and something I wanted to keep playing.

When I moved here, I had a pretty difficult time adjusting to the new environment, and I knew I needed the stress-relieving outlet volleyball had provided for me, so I got back into it. I played recreational volleyball in sixth grade, then played club for seventh and eighth grade.

Now, I play for this great club called Monument Volleyball, and I am currently on the AHS Varsity volleyball team, which I am super excited about.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to play with my amazing teammates on both my high school and club team. Playing has had its ups and downs, and it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but I am truly happy that I found the sport. It lets me be part of a team and a family, and in turn, something bigger than just me.

Although I would love to play volleyball after high school, I am looking towards getting into a great college with an amazing study abroad program. I’m also a member of a few clubs, including the Atoms Writing Center. There, I am in a position of leadership as a tutor leader. It’s been awesome to watch students progress in their writing and know that I can help my peers.
