For a unique experience to get you into the holiday spirit, go see the Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights on Dec.1. The event includes over 50 decorated and lit boats sailing down the Potomac River. Viewing locations include both the Old Town waterfront as well as Maine Avenue in Washington, D.C. However, if you watch from Old Town, you will also be able to enjoy the holiday gift market inside the nearby Torpedo Factory.

Details:

5 p.m. parade starts at Alexandria Waterfront on Union Street between King Street and Cameron Street. Torpedo Factory Market opens at 4 p.m.

6 p.m. parade continues at Washington Channel, Water Street off Maine Ave in D.C.
