The off season is a crucial part of every athlete’s development in preparation for the upcoming year in sports.
During this time athletes spend their time focusing on improving their skills and staying active. AHS swimmer Connor Uzokoff spends his off season staying active in the pool.
“To prepare for the season, I have been making sure to continue swimming in the mornings before school,” Uzokoff said. “During the summer, I made sure to swim every day and lift [weights] as much as I could.”
Working in the offseason is a great time to sharpen all aspects of your game. Miah Henderson, who plays Varsity Volleyball for AHS, works on not just her physical part of the game but also her mental side:
“When preparing for the season I work a lot with all parts
of volleyball,” Henderson said. “I work with my technique, strength and mentality because it all comes together to make me a better athlete.”
While training in the offseason may be challenging, staying consistent may be a harder challenge: “I try to train almost everyday to improve my skills.” Henderson said.
Stacking workout on top of workout is the best way to get better. Without consistency your hard work may fall behind. “During the off-season, training is harder than normal since I have to come up with my own practices.” Uzokoff said. “I mainly just do my best to stay active and get as close as I can to the sport that I’m training for.”
