Gwenivere didn’t always know what art truly was or how far it could go. Ever since she was a child the only version of art she knew of was drawing random landscapes and animals like most children her age. Until she is inspired by one of her guardians “My guardian was a huge fashion designer so I always saw her drawings scattered around different parts of the house and that’s how I go into art by sketching people and dresses like her” but there are other sides to art she would find she would love she wasn’t introduced to yet. “in Disney movies, especially Sleeping Beauty, like old old Disney movies.” Gwen fell in love with the movement and grace of older Disney movies. The combination of her Guardian’s old old-fashioned designs and older Disney movies set off her journey with art.
Even though she’s only at a digital art one she has big dreams to join an art studio one day on bigger projects when she’s older. Part of the reason she plans to enter a studio one day is because she admires the idea of working with other skilled talented artists. “Well creating is always good but the community of skilled people, like skilled animators and an insane indevor. Witnessing and working with so many people who are doing something so difficult and so intricate is very impressive to me and I want to be a part of something that is intricate that is precise but ultimately extremely rewarding.” But she doesn’t aim to work at a bigger studio; she has humble dreams of working somewhere smaller.
She already has plans set in motion to accomplish this dream. “developing a portfolio, getting closer and closer to developing my personal animation and drawing style, maybe getting into an internship somewhere. One of my friends who goes to governor school[an institution where you apply for specific programs over the summer to take classes] told me there’s a path for
Animation.” But of course, she said that studying from life will be the greatest tool on her journey to becoming a professional animator. “I hate to say this but practice, practice, practice. Watching everything–watching how people walk, how people turn, how people communicate. It’s all movement.”
Gwen has already shown to be talented and dedicated to her craft. Even though her journey started with landscapes and broken stick figures she has found herself growing into the strong artists that she is today. She has showcased her talents through difficult assignments in class, involving herself in the AHS art community both in and out of the classroom, and going through the tough but inevitable journey every artist has to go through: practice, practice, practice. Practice subjects you don’t care about, practice things you’re really bad at, and practice paying attention to the little details in life. Gwen has only just started her journey at AHS and she’ll only get better with time and practice.
