Q: “How do you advocate and volunteer?”
A: “I like to help the school in as many ways as possible. I created a financial literacy presentation and taught classrooms full of English language learners about things like credit cards and investing, and then I had one of my friends translate to Spanish so that it was available for Spanish speakers.”
Q: “How was it receiving the Annandale High School Peace Award?”
A: “The school picks the person who wins the award, but I was able to go meet representatives Walkinshaw and Ryan McElveen, and they presented the award to one student from each school. Then we all got to meet and talk to each other and the members of the school board. They gave us their contact information and said that they wanted to connect us to more opportunities to continue our projects.”
Q: “Why do you decide to give back to your community?”
A: “I just like to help people. I like to be busy, and I like to do things. So when there’s a lot of opportunities to give back to the community, I do it. Also I can be active while also giving back to the community very easily at the end.”
Q: “How do you plan to continue in the future, possibly in college?”
A: “In college, I definitely will. I really like school spirit and stuff like that. So if there’s any volunteer opportunities that involve school spirit or school events, or setting up campus events, I don’t know stuff like that, then I’ll definitely want to join those.”
Q: “Do you feel like advocating/ volunteering and things you like come hand in hand?”
A: “So I actually just start with things that I like. You can go at it from two different angles. I don’t know, I do both, but you can start with something that you like and find a way to or way to find how it applies to your community. You can also start off with something that your community needs, like somebody to work the concessions. Then you can go from that route too, but it’s a lot of fun to talk about something you already like or enjoy to people, and you can turn basically anything into a project.”
Q: “How do you manage your time as someone who has various responsibilities?”
A: “I love being busy and having something to do keeps me energized and motivated, so it’s like a cycle and going from one thing to the next is fun for me. As for classwork I learn quickly and I lock in so I don’t have homework.”
