Coming off another hard fought win, the Atoms have earned a record of 2-1-1. The girls defeated Meridian High School at home with a 2-1 victory on April 7th. Senior Melanie Decareau led the team with two goals.
Since the beginning of the season they were faced with many challenges such as building chemistry with new teammates and adapting to the new coaching staff.
Senior Lily Rumpf is very proud of how the team has reacted to these difficulties: “The team is doing really well adjusting to many new things this year. First, we have an entirely new varsity coaching staff, and we’ve been doing a great job adapting to new coaching styles, a new formation, and new vibes in practice,” Rumpf said. “We’ve been doing great work with many freshmen and new people in new positions. With a new formation, new starting lineup, and many changes to who plays on the field we’ve been doing pretty well as a team.”
Although the team has faced many challenges this early in the season they still have high expectations for the year. Sophomore Ana Crittenden believes the team has what it takes to be great.
“The team’s main goal this season is to definitely win districts because we know we have the athletic ability to win,” Crittenden said. “The team is [doing] very well with how many new players are on the team this year and we’re definitely coming together.”
The girls will be preparing for their next game at Lewis on Friday Go support the Atoms at Lewis at 7:15!
