Kaysnix.flores is a small business run by Kaylee Nichole, offering commissions for eternal bouquets.
Eternal bouquets are made of handcrafted artificial flowers, and Kaylee specializes in ones made of ribbon. The price of each bouquet varies depending on several factors including the number of flowers.
Kaylee offers small and big bouquets as well as heart boxes, the price varying anywhere from $6 to $150.
Her business, however, began in February of 2023, when she was inspired by her mother as well as social media influencers to begin selling her bouquets.
Though generally successful, Kaylee has struggled with orders of short notice, and there have been many instances where she has had to bring her materials to multitask. This business has taken up much of her time, and she has been very stressed as a result. Nevertheless, Kaylee has learned to manage her time wisely, as it was the biggest challenge she has had to face with her business.
“I struggled so much with time management…Regardless, you have to be able to make time with an order,” she says.
Kaylee has also recognized the importance of communication. She mentioned that her communication skills have greatly improved through her business, stating, “If you don’t communicate right, things can get misinterpreted.”
When considering others also interested in starting a business, Kaylee recommends giving yourself breaks, as taking care of your health is extremely important. Furthermore, she suggests having lots of support from others since running a business alone can be a great deal of work.
Kaylee plans on continuing her eternal bouquet business in the future, as she certainly loves her work, and her business can be found at @kaysnixs.flores on Instagram.
Khadija Ahmed is another one of the few students at Annandale High School who run their own small business.
She offers henna services, charging $10 per hand, though the time the service takes varies depending on the design. Khadija learned to do henna from YouTube as well as her family members, and her business took off last year after her friends encouraged her to start one.
There have been many difficulties she has had to face, however, a major one being that she has encountered people with hopes of scamming her. Finding customers has also been a difficult task especially considering the high amount of competition in the area.
The business has also made it difficult for her school life, as past clients have requested to have her services done during the school day. She has had to balance her school work with her business, packing her schedule and reducing her free time.
Regardless, her business has taught her many lessons including the importance of managing her time and determining how much work she can handle at once.
As for others wanting to start their own business, Khadija advises others to “just do it.” As long as they have passion and great organization and time management skills, she highly recommends going for it. “Don’t be scared to do it, that’s all I can tell them,” she stated.
Khadija plans on continuing her business in the future, especially since her interests do not only lie in the profit. “I do this for myself…just to get off my phone for a little bit…I also donate to Palestine as well as charities,” she states.
Her business is currently doing well, and it can be found at @henn_abykhadija on Instagram.
