The winner of the Gold key was Skylar Franzelas with the photography art named “Breaking Through”. This piece also won an extra award. The American Visions Award which is given out to only a few select art pieces each year. Annandale congratulates Frenzelas for her great work.

In the honorable mention were Jessica Ferson with digital art named “Virtue”, Vy Nguyen with a painting named “Unrevealed”, and Jacob Weber qualifying again with his digital art named “Curiosity”

One of the competent in the honorable mention Vy Nguyen mentioned that Nguyen “was surprised but very happy because this was my first time entering in an art competition in HS” her painting a charcoal pencil self portrait to place emphasis on extreme lighting. Nguyen mentions that “half of my face was very light and shows all the components of my facial features. The other half is dark and leaves the viewers to connect the rest of the face however they want.” making the viewer more connected to her painting.

The painting was inspired by her art teacher as she was interested in some of the pictures that drew close to her heart.

Nguyen also adds to her statement saying that she spent 7-8 hours on the portrait. Nguyen will be hoping to enter the next competition to have fun and perhaps win for the second time.

The Gold key and Silver key artwork will be displayed from February 10 through March 5 at the Ernst Community Cultural Center on the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College, and there will be awards ceremony on the evening of Wednesday, February 22nd.

Show up and show your appreciation for the hard work and time the students had put into their works.
