The UEFA Champions league return for the 2023-2024 Season

By Kevin Flores

No World Cup, Don’t worry, as every year we soccer fans are gifted by the greatest Club tournament in the world; The UEFA Champions League. “The anthem, the fans, and the historic clubs that compete make it a magical tournament” followed up by “ There are crazy matches that happen each season, and are mind blowing to watch” said Senior Ernesto Landaverde on the Champions league. The first ever edition was in the 1955-1956 season in which Spanish club Real Madrid won. Back then, It wasn’t even called the Champions League, it was called the European Cup; and would only be re-branded in 1992 to the current name it holds: The UEFA Champions league. A total of 23 teams have won the famous trophy, with Real Madrid having won the most at a staggering 14 titles. The second team to have won the most titles is Italian Giants AC Milan with 7 titles, half of what Real Madrid have won. Real Madrid are also the only team to ever have won three Champions league titles consecutively between 2015 and 2018 marking an incredible moment in the tournament’s history. The current Champions are English club Manchester city having beaten Italian club Inter Milan 1-0. This Match week 3 gifted us with plenty of great games, as the groups are starting to take shape. One of the big headline games was PSG vs AC Milan, in what looked like to be a very contested match, which actually resulted in a dominant 3-0 win for PSG. The other match was a surprise for everyone watching. The surprise underdogs Newcastle who came from beating PSG 4-1 at home, were up against a slow and static Borussia Dortmund who had only one point and hadn’t scored a goal. Newcastle were the firm favorites, but they would fumble to a lousy 0-1 loss at home.Spanish club Real Sociedad would win 0-1 away to Portuguese Powerhouse Benfica, pushing them upwards to seven points and sinking Benfica to zero points out of nine.Junior Jason Buendia had this to say when asked what was the big upset of this match week “Benfica losing to real sociedad, because Benfica is known as a really strong team in Europe and it to be beaten by a team like sociedad is shocking, although Real Sociedad have been performing well in La liga”. While the defending champions Manchester City continue their great form beating Swiss team Young boys (yes that’s their actual name) 1-3 to make it nine points out of nine.

The UEFA Champions league returns on November 7th for Match week 4, Some of the headliner games are Borussia Dortmund vs New Castle, AC Milan vs PSG, and much more. You can watch the UEFA Champions league via a subscription to paramount plus, or watch on TUDN by the television network Univision for Spanish speakers.
