The annual state track meet is being held at Boo Williams Sportsplex on Feb. 26 and 27.

This year only one runner, junior Jacob Weber, qualified to run at the meet. It is his first time competing at the state competition and he is going to be running the 55 meter hurdles.

The state’s meet is a competition for the top runners from various regional meets throughout the winter season. Running at the state competition is the goal of many high school track runners.

It is a great accomplishment to qualify for states and Weber is excited for the opportunity of running at the meet.

“I think it will be a great experience competing at a much higher level than I am used to,” Weber said.

The states meet is more intense and competitive than other meets and requires a lot of training and preparation.

He has been putting in a lot of effort in order to achieve his goal of running a 7.92 (seconds) in his event. Despite the more serious meet, Weber’s practices have not varied greatly from his previous training.

“My practices have been the same as they were earlier in the season,” Weber said. “Lots of repeating the same things trying to get them perfect.”

The upcoming meet is a great way for Weber to end his season. It reflects the work that he put in throughout the regular track season. is hopeful for next season and excited to   see what he

and the track team can achieve.

“My team as a whole did well, we have a lot of good,  young runners and a lot of leadership from the seniors, but  I think with the coaching we have we can be a lot better in the spring.”
