Senior superstar Allen Kokilananda looks to lead wrestling to victory this season

As November rolls around the corner, fall sports come to an end and winter sports begin.
Senior Allen Kokilananda will be looking to lead the wrestling team to a strong season.

How did you discover your interest for wrestling?
I️ discovered my interest for wrestling in middle school when I️ realized why I️ wrestle. That is why I love the sport and what it teaches me: self reliance, determination, and many other things.

What are your main motivations for doing wrestling?
My main motivation for doing wrestling is to become the best person I️ can be through I️t.

How have your coaches and teammates supported you?
My coaches and teammates have supported me through pushing me beyond my capabilities and having me do the right things in and out of the sport of wrestling.

Who is your sports hero?
My sports hero is Penn State’s Zain Retherford, because he has crazy stamina and is relentless.
How has being an athlete made you a better person?
Being an athlete has made me use my time management skills properly and it’s helped me mature.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
“I️t gets lonely being the best.”

What is your training routine?
I️ lift after school with Coach Klein, our strength and conditioning coach, big shout out to him for joining the program. And then we practice for about two hours in the matroom. On Saturday we practice about two or three hours. Sunday is my day off but I️ train at Episcopal for two hours with a club.

How do you prepare for big meets and competitions?
I️ make sure to be in the best shape I️ can be for competitions and that I️ know what moves to do.

How does it feel when you are successful at meets?
I️t is a rewarding feeling because my hard work has paid off and I️ know Coach Sweet and Coach Ho have been doing the right thing.

What goals do you have for yourself and for the team coming into the 2017/2018 season?
As a team, I believe we can win the Gunston Conference. Personally, I️ want to be the second ever to win four Conference championships, win the region, and states.
