The Atoms indoor track team has started their season strong. The team, which has many new runners, are looking to greatly improve upon last year’s times and hopefully set new records in this upcoming season.
Runners are looking to set personal goals for themselves going into this season and are constantly looking to improve.
“I want to run 50 seconds in the 400 meter dash, I’ve been training really hard and coach told me it is within reach so I plan on working really hard towards that goal” sophomore Aiden Moore stated. Sophomore Obed Acquah suffered a knee injury during the football season.
“I’m looking to get my time down to 11 seconds in the 100 meter dash,” said Acquah, who also prepares for this season off the field by doing home workouts and plyometrics.
Aside from athletes preparing for the season the team also relies on the help of coaching staff, who greatly contribute to the success of athletes. The team has had 2 meets this season and plan on having their next meet on the 19th of December.
“I’m looking to go deep into region this year with the boys,” stated distance coach Phil Harris when asked about where the team is expected to be at the end of this season.“On the girls’ side we are a little weak, we are young, mainly 9th and 10th graders.” He said “for the girls, I want them to train and see what it feels like.” at the end of this season.
