The crowd is held in suspense and holds their breath as co-host senior Grace Franje reads the card with the winner to the male pageant. She looks up after what seems like forever, and announces “Mr. Annandale for 2011 is….Bob Stevens!”

On Feb. 25 at 7 p.m., the comedic male beauty pageant, Mr. Annandale, was held in the auditorium. Students packed in to see their fellow classmates and the finest boys at AHS compete in a friendly competition to entertain the crowd and have some fun.

The boys who participated signed up to compete this year, as opposed to nomination and voting in previous years, and included juniors and seniors.

The juniors who competed were William Bennett, Ahmad Haj-Assaad, Sergio Moya and Samir Shah. The seniors who competed included Yari Mizouri, Joey Mazzara, Kevin Cleary, Larry Le, Gabe Litvin, Henry Cooper and Bob Stevens.

The competition consisted of five sections: Introduction, muscle, talent, spirit and a questionnaire.

The crowd was entertained the entire night with hilarious performances, including Litvin dancing to the popular hip-hop song “Teach Me How To Dougie,” Le singing Rihanna’s “Only Girl In The World” and Cleary jumping around the stage dressed as a cheerleader.

Junior Paul Singh, who jumped on stage and was featured in Shah’s talent, said “Mr. Annandale was very entertaining and it captured the audience. It inspired me to want to do it next year.”

After the introduction, muscle, talent and spirit sections, all of the contestants were brought out and the top five were announced: Mizouri, Litvin, Cooper, Stevens and Shah. The top five participated in a questionnaire with questions relating to AHS like “Name three head coaches and the sports they coach,” and “Name the last principal of AHS.” At one point, all five took over the mic and sang the AHS fight song.

After the questionnaire section and a slow dance during intermission featuring Stevens and senior Katie Bui, awards with sashes were given. First, Shah was crowned Mr. Elegance, followed by Cooper crowned Mr. Muscle and Mazzara crowned Mr. Talent. Then, the moment everyone had been waiting for, Stevens was crowned Mr. Annandale.
