Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and John F. Kennedy were all seen walking around the halls of AHS today. Clearly, not the real people, but students from MaryAnne Richardson’s IB Topics class dressed up as the famous figures. Typically, students spend weeks studying for their final exams. Luckily for these students, their final exam project was to come to school dressed as a historical figure of their choosing.
“I decided to come dressed as Jackie Kennedy because I admire the work that she did as first lady, how she traveled the world alone, and how she has become such a fashion icon,” senior Kelsey Price said.
In addition to coming to school dressed as a historical figure, students had to listen to a lecture about past presidents and their characteristics before and during the presidency. They are also expected to stay in character throughout the class period and participate in a class discussion.
“We began searching for historical figures that we could portray about a week ago and ever since then everyone has been preparing to look and act like the historical figures they chose,” senior Haumaira Safi said. “For instance, I chose to be Audrey Hepburn. I watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s and an Audrey Hepburn biography over the weekend to see what she looked like and what she had to go through in her life.”
This experience has given the students more insight into the figures and characters they have learned about all year in the hopes that they will remember what they have learned for years to come.
