Students reflect on their four-day weekend

After being inundated with laborious assignments and staying up late at night working on projects, AHS students have finally reached the end of first quarter and received long four day break. With the sudden cold weather pushing through and many fall activities in full scale, there is not a limit to how AHS students could have spent this long weekend.

“On Sunday, my dad and I went to a Redskins game! It was great! It was a one o’clock game and we tailgated from 10 to game time. We went to the game even though they lost and had a great time,” sophomore Megan Ryan said. The Redskins played against the 49er’s and lost 19 to 11. To enhance her experience at the game, Ryan and her family tailgated with the others who came early to the game. These tailgates include grilling out, playing games such as corn hole and talking to fellow fans about the team.

Other ways in which students spent there time included celebrating Eid, which is a Muslim holiday that commemorates the struggles of Abraham. It is tradition to sacrifice an animal such as a sheep, camel, or goat, which reminds Muslims of Abraham’s sacrifice. “Our family’s get together and we go pray at the mosque in the morning. Then we come home and eat. The little kids even get presents,”sophomore Aysha Gaffar said.

Some students even spent their weekend going paintballing. “On Saturday, I went paintballing for my friend’s birthday party,” Ryan said. Paintballing is increasingly popular in fall and winter weather as a sometimes painful, yet thrill seeking source of fun. There are many paintball courses nearby, including Pev’s Paintball Park in Lee Highway, Fairfax. “I was freaked out from the paintballs because when you get shot, well they hurt a lot! I got many welts and bruises. But it was overall fun.”
