Students attend honor roll breakfast

Students enjoy their breakfast during Atom Time.

The first quarter honor roll breakfast took place on Nov. 29, in the cafeteria during Atom Time. Students who achieved all A’s and B’s on their first quarter report cards, were invited to enjoy fruit, donuts and drinks provided by the culinary arts members.

“I feel great that I get to be on the honor roll this quarter,” junior Benish Saleem said. “It is really important for me to get good grades, and free food is always a nice little incentive for that.”

The PTSA sponsored this event. Many parents apart of the PTSA also came to help out. They checked to make sure students had an invitation paper to enter into the cafeteria, but they also helped clean up.

“I think this is fantastic that there are so many people here, and hopefully more students will be here next quarter,” PTSA member Robin Hylton said. “I also think it is nice that the special education students were incorporated in.”

Towards the end of the breakfast, Assistant Principal Jamie Carayiannis made a speech praising the honor roll students on their achievement. He stressed the importance of earning good grades, as well as the benefits and struggles the students will encounter.

“I’d like to congratulate you all, not just for this quarter, but also for the pathway you’re heading down,” Carayiannis said. “In the future, as you begin to excel, things get more difficult. I would like to tell you to work through that. This doesn’t happen through magic. There will be times you will struggle.”

“I’m in all Pre-IB classes, so I had to work really hard to get on the honor roll,” freshman Melissa Haberle said. “However, I do get home at 2:30 every day, so it’s not hard to start working and to keep working.”

Though there were many who enjoyed a free breakfast for their academics achievements, some students were disappointed for not being able to come, due to not making the honor roll.

“I tried very hard this quarter and I wasn’t on the honor roll, but my goal is to be on it next quarter,” sophomore Nikita Coelho said. “I don’t care too much for the breakfast, but it would be nice to have. I think the idea of rewarding students is awesome.”
