On Dec. 15, students received their interims, displaying their current grades in the second quarter. Several students were left disappointed by their performance so far.
“I think my interim grades are good,” sophomore Lewis Folli said. “I think there is room for improvement, but I’ve been improving.”
Interims are used to leave a four-week window for students to improve their grades. With the new implemented W4 and Atom Time classes, students are finding it easier to utilize their time to manage their school work. Directed students, however, have mandatory sessions with classes that they are struggling in.
“Although I’m directed [for atom time], I have more plans for raising my grades,” Folli said. “I’m going to start my homework earlier instead of coming home from track and watching T.V.”
Unlike some schools, AHS gives report cards and interims directly to students. Although messages are sent to students’ homes notifying parents, several students still manage to avoid letting their parents know their grades.
“I never show my parents,” sophomore Lorenzo Garcia said. “They never ask me about them, and I only show them if they are good.”
