What’s in your wallet this Christmas?

As we have approached the month of Christmas there are many questions revolving gifts. Who should I get a Christmas present? How much do I spend on family or friends? Do I get gifts for extended family? Where should I be looking for the best deals? What do I get for parents or siblings? These are all valid questions, here are some ideas.

Christmas is the season of giving. People typically enjoying giving Christmas gifts rather than receiving Christmas gifts due to the warm feeling they get inside them. However, often as a teenager, you get confused on who you should be getting Christmas gifts for and what to get the person.

It’s always best to try an be sentimental when gifting a present to a family member. Get the time to make a list on their favorite items.  Freshmen Sydney Whurer plans to get her grandfather “a fishing hat because he loves to fishing.”

When shopping for your mom, a house warming item is always a safe move whether that be a  cooking utensil she has been complaining about not having or a nice candle. Candles are always on sale places like Bath and Body Works always offer great deals during the holiday season.

Parents often are big sports fans. “My mother loves the redskins, so I’m planning on saving my money and buying her a new Redskin jersey of her favorite player,” said senior Kiara Andino. Conveniently the NFL, MLB, NHL and other sport organization stores have great deals right now with nearly 70 percent off clothing, cups, and blankets.

Siblings are much harder to shop for than parents unless they make it easy with a Christmas wish list but even then, the things they want can be out of your price range. An easy, cheap gift for a younger sibling are dolls, disney movies, videogames, legos etc.  The most in demand gifts for young girls are Shopkins sets which just cost $10. While younger boys tend to lead more on Pokemon games.

Teenage sibling are difficult to shop for because they tend to be more picky. An easy and affordable gift would be a $10-25  gift card to a store or restaurant they often go to. “I’m getting my mom a gift card from Macy’s because she loves to shop there,” said sophomore Anissa Cheikh.

Clothes for either boys or girls are often good gifts but risk disapproval and getting stuffed in the top of their closets. If you don’t want to risk this, you can always buy your friend or family member a pair of shoes that they will wear everyday. “I’m getting my sister a pair of black booties,” said senior Tehya Moss since this shoe style is in demand.

A universal gift for parents, siblings, or friends can be fun socks, phone cases, charging cables, or even earphones. These are often cheaper gifts that will be appreciated and used by whomever you give it to and are easy to get off Amazon for a lower rate than at a retail store

Often times you have extended family that you will see Christmas and don’t know what to get them. The same is true with friends, unless you know them really well and know they are getting you something, it is unnecessary to get them anything.
