Valentine’s Day is a sweet treat

For those girls taken out by their boyfriends to see Valentines Day this past weekend, they were truly rewarded. The romantic comedy, which opened on February 12, intertwined multiple stories of couples on Valentine’s Day. The amount of renowned actors in the film seemed a bit daunting, especially since “He’s Just Not That Into You” attempted to do so and failed in 2009.

The movie opens with Reed, a love obsessed young adult, played by Ashton Kutcher, waking up on Valentine’s Day ready to propose to his girlfriend Morley, played by Jessica Alba.

Reed owns a florist company and when best friend Julia’s (played by Jennifer Garner) boyfriend Patrick Dempsey, comes in with an order for two women, Reed spends the rest of the movie trying to tell her.

The ridiculousness of the holiday is exaggerated with elementary school boy, Edison, played by talented Bryce Robinson, spending his Valentine’s Day trying to give flowers to his special girl, who ends up not being who you’d expect.

Taylor Swift‘s nailed the role of a love-addicted teenager, playing the ditzy high school girlfriend of Taylor Lautner.

In addition Grace, played Emma Roberts and her boyfriend Alex, played Carter Jenkins, added a hysterical scene as they attempted to make their ‘first time’ special during their lunch break. But an unexpected visitor made that a bit difficult.

And don’t worry, for you Valentine’s Day haters, Jessica Beil is there so cater to your need. An agent for pro football player Eric Dane, Beil despises the holiday and throws her annual ‘I hate Valentine’s Day’ party.

The directors even managed to throw in a surprisingly shocking gay couple at the end of the movie, resulting in laughs and cringes from the audience.

Overall the movie did an excellent job at connecting and intertwining the story of multiple couples, even throwing in a few foreshadowed, yet unpredictable surprises.

The movie was at the top of the box office over Presidents Day weekend, bringing in $52.4 million the first three days.
