A beautiful set of landscapes and soundscapes await you in the fantastic adventure that is Journey. For all of you lovers of action-packed games out there, this is not the game for you. The video-game Journey is a game that makes me proud to call myself a PS3 owner (as the game is restricted to the Playstation 3 system). Its a game that makes me proud to call myself a gamer. Journey is, without a doubt, one of the best games I have ever had the privilege to play.

The story is a simplistic, dialogue-free example of pure elegance. A robed character traversing across different sections of a journey, to the destination, a final shining point in a mountain off across the distant lands. You make it through desert sands, a seemingly underwater cave system that ends up around a tower, and through mountain passes and snow towards the final objective. Along with the beautifully sculpted landscapes, the symphonic soundtrack made the entire game. The way it flowed into and through each portion of the game gave it the exact aura it needed. Every scene you completed sent you to the next area, along with a change in the song and the landscape. (Note: The soundtrack was so well-received that it was nominated for a Grammy in 2012)

Your character’s journey is visited by his power of speech, which is able to animate certain objects throughout the game, that usually are made of the same sort of ‘living’ fabric that creates the robes clothing the character you play as. But to increase the power imbued in the fabric you wear, you collect little glowing symbols (we’ll call them runes) around the area throughout the game. The runes lengthen the scarf from your robe, which holds power for your speech and ability to fly/glide through certain sections of air. The game also connected you without a hitch with other players without your knowledge. Your one partner (as the game only allows a pair), throughout the game, goes with you and helps you along the way to find runes and complete objectives. Playing online lets you travel with a companion, further enhancing the experience. When traveling together, you cannot verbally communicate with an actual language, nor do you know their name. Usually,  It was wonderful to see that people in this world don’t only play violent games in their free time, nor leave partners behind to have a lesser experience.

The game was, even if a cliche, a magical experience. It gives you a truly spectacular experience with the simple concept and gorgeous visuals that it presents itself with. The beautiful music and simplistic gameplay combined made for one of the most memorable experiences in a game I possibly will have in my entire life

Journey is one game that definitely deserves a 10 out of 10.
